Ian Schneller

With a focus on raising sector cyber defense capabilities, Ian Schneller has led broad financial sector strategies to collaborate amongst industry, trade organizations and the US Government to reduce systemic risk to the financial sector.   Ian continues to also serve an Operating Committee member of the Financial Systemic Analysis and Resilience Center (FSARC) and serves in leadership roles in broad risk identification and reduction initiatives. As well, Ian leads a large effort in Global Information Security to validate information security controls are effectively implemented in all new and updated technology efforts in the bank.


Prior to joining Bank of America Ian served as the Executive Director of Global Cyber Partnerships and Government Strategy at JPMorgan Chase where he led global cyber strategies to uplift cyber threat intelligence, cyber operations and sector crisis response capabilities.  Ian also served 24 years in the Department of Defense.  In that period, he served in many cyber leadership positions to include as CIO/CISO.  Ian also led a multi-billion dollar mission charged with developing and operating advanced cyber capabilities for the Undersecretary of Defense (Intelligence), the DoD Chief Information Officer, and the Secretary of the Air Force.  In this role he led high impact teams advising the US Congress and Executive Branch, resulting in a coordinated, funded national approach to resolve the highest cyber concerns of US Government leadership.  Earlier in his career, Ian stood up and led US Cyber Command’s Mission Management Cell where he synchronized and prioritized operations and cyber threat intelligence requirements from Combatant Commands and ensured appropriate action by the US Intelligence Community.  Having a deep background in offensive cyber technology, policy and authority, Ian served as Acting Chief of the National Security Agency’s Tailored Access Operations overseas office and was a founder of the Air Force’s first Computer Network Exploitation and Attack squadron.  He conducted numerous cyber missions that supplied strategic intelligence to the President, Secretary of Defense and all Combatant Commanders.    


Ian graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science; from the University of West Florida with a Master of Science in Software Engineering; and from the Department of Defense’s CIO certification program.  Over the years, Ian has served as an adjunct computer networking professor.  He has also been published several times by the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineers and has contributed to a college Computer Security text book.
